Pushdaddy or SuperLemon alternative: WhatsApp apps compared
A dated, factual comparison of WhatsApp apps for Shopify for merchants leaving Pushdaddy or SuperLemon: official API, fees, caps, languages, migration.
If you are searching for a Pushdaddy WhatsApp alternative or a SuperLemon alternative, you are probably not shopping for features. You are replacing something that used to work: a listing that no longer opens, templates that vanished after an update, or a support inbox that stopped answering after the company changed hands. This article is written for that situation. It states what can be verified about each app from its public Shopify App Store page on 28 September 2026, puts the facts side by side in one table, and then walks through a migration that does not lose your WhatsApp number, your templates or a billing cycle. It does not quote competitor marketing, and where something cannot be verified it says so.
What changed, according to merchants
SuperLemon is still listed on the App Store as SL: WhatsApp Chat + Marketing, with a 3.4 rating across 357 reviews on the date of writing. Its 1- and 2-star reviews describe a change in ownership and product direction: one undated review says the app is "now owned by GUPSHUP and they are not intrested in customer services"; another reports a "Poor experience since the founders have left". The most concrete loss is from 12 November 2021, when a merchant who had "used the app for the past year (happily)" wrote that after an update "you can no longer send manual messages" and that they "lost all of our message templates, no advance notice". Whatever the reasons behind these changes, the reviews show the two risks that matter when you pick a replacement: features can be removed in a redesign, and templates stored inside an app can disappear with it.
Pushdaddy is the other name in this search. On 28 September 2026 the App Store URL that its listing used, apps.shopify.com/pushdaddy, returned an HTTP 404, and a search for "pushdaddy" on the App Store did not return a listing under that name. We could not verify the reason the listing is unavailable, the install count it had, or whether the developer is still operating, so this article treats Pushdaddy as unavailable to new merchants and says nothing further about it.
The comparison table
Everything below comes from each app's public App Store listing or, for Beacon Messenger, from the app's own source and pricing page, all checked on 28 September 2026. Listings change; if you are reading this later, click through and re-check before deciding.
| App | Sends through the official WhatsApp Business API? | Per-message fee charged by the app | Monthly message cap | Languages | App Store status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beacon Messenger | Yes, only. Every automated message is an approved template sent through Meta's Cloud API; there is no linked-device or QR mode. | None. Plans are flat; Meta bills your own business account directly. | Hard cap per plan: 50 (Free, $0), 500 (Starter, $9.99), 2,500 (Growth, $24.99), 10,000 (Pro, $59.99). Over-cap messages are skipped and logged, never billed. | App in English. Templates in any language Meta approves. Cash-on-delivery replies are acknowledged in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Hindi. | Marketing site live; install from the landing page. |
| SuperLemon (SL: WhatsApp Chat + Marketing) | Listing describes a WhatsApp API inbox for paid plans and a Chrome extension inside WhatsApp Web for merchants on a personal number. | Listing states "WhatsApp rates start from 0.015 USD" on the $19.99 and $29.99 plans; footer notes recurring and usage-based charges are billed every 30 days. | Not stated on the listing. | Listing states templates in 10+ languages. | Listed; 3.4 rating, 357 reviews. |
| WhatFlow | Listing advertises connecting "using WhatsApp link-a-device"; developer replies on the review page point to a separate Official API app. | $0.01 per message sent beyond the included quantity on every plan, including the $0 plan. | Included quantities of 50, 1,000, 2,000 and 4,000 messages, then usage charges; no hard cap stated. | Listing states English. | Listed as "Free to install. Usage charges apply."; 3.9 rating, 340 reviews. |
| Pushdaddy | Could not be verified. | Could not be verified. | Could not be verified. | Could not be verified. | apps.shopify.com/pushdaddy returned 404 on 28 September 2026. |
How to read the table
- Official API or not is the first filter. Apps that drive a WhatsApp Web session from a server can be disconnected or restricted by WhatsApp at any time; the linked-device vs Cloud API article explains why and how to tell them apart.
- Per-message fees decide what a good month costs. With the official API you always pay Meta's published rates per delivered template message; the question is whether the app adds a second fee on top. Shopify's help centre explains how app usage charges reach your invoice and why they can arrive weeks later (App charges on your Shopify bills).
- A hard cap and an included quantity are opposites. An included quantity is the point where per-message charges start; a hard cap is the point where sending stops. Only one of them protects you from an invoice you did not plan for.
- Languages means three different things: the language of the app's admin, the languages the app's built-in templates come in, and the languages your customers can reply in. Check the one that matters for your store.
Migrating without losing your number or templates
- Find out where your templates live. On the official API, templates belong to your WhatsApp Business Account in Meta's WhatsApp Manager, not to the app; if you can see them there, they survive the switch. If your current app only shows templates inside its own admin and connects by pairing a phone, copy the text of each one now, because there is nothing at Meta to fall back on.
- Settle billing before you uninstall. Shopify states that uninstalling cancels future recurring charges but you might still be billed for the current cycle, and that refunds must be requested from the developer before uninstalling (Uninstalling apps).
- If the old app paired your phone, disconnect it and remove the linked device from WhatsApp Business before registering the number with Meta. A number that is still attached to a web session cannot be cleanly registered on the Business Platform.
- Create the Meta assets once: a Meta developer app with the WhatsApp product, a WhatsApp Business Account, the registered phone number and a permanent system-user token. The Cloud API notifications guide covers this step by step.
- Recreate the templates you copied as utility templates in WhatsApp Manager, then map them in the new app. Utility templates with a clear order context are normally approved quickly.
- Uninstall the old app and check the storefront. If a button or pop-up remains in your theme, the chat widget still showing after uninstall guide explains why and how to remove it.
- Place a test order to a phone you control and confirm in the new app's delivery log that the message reads delivered and read, not just sent.
Where Beacon Messenger fits
Beacon Messenger was built around the two failure modes above. It only sends through the Cloud API with templates that already exist in your WhatsApp Business Account, so nothing you approve at Meta can be deleted by an app update. Its plans are flat and the cap is enforced before each send, so there is no usage line on your Shopify bill. The delivery log records Meta's sent, delivered, read and failed statuses per message with the error text when a send fails, and the chat button is a theme app extension that Shopify removes on uninstall. What it does not have, so you can decide honestly: no shared team inbox, no bulk marketing broadcasts, and no linked-device mode for merchants who want to keep a personal number. The landing page lists the current plans and what each automation does.
Frequently asked questions
Is Pushdaddy still available on the Shopify App Store?
On 28 September 2026 the listing URL apps.shopify.com/pushdaddy returned a 404 and an App Store search for the name did not show a listing. We could not verify why, so treat it as unavailable and re-check the App Store yourself before relying on it.
Will I lose my WhatsApp templates when I switch apps?
Not if they live in your WhatsApp Business Account at Meta, which is where official API templates are stored. Templates that exist only inside an app's own admin, typical of linked-device tools, should be copied out before you uninstall.
Can I keep the same WhatsApp number?
Usually yes. Disconnect and remove any linked device first, then register the number on the WhatsApp Business Platform. A number that has been permanently banned cannot be registered; in that case start with a fresh number and announce it to customers.
Does Beacon Messenger charge per message?
No. The monthly plan is the only charge from the app, and the cap stops sending rather than billing overage. Meta charges your business account per delivered template message at its published rates.
Will I be charged twice while switching?
Possibly for one cycle. Shopify bills the current cycle of the app you leave and starts the new app's cycle on install. Ask the old developer about a refund before uninstalling, as Shopify's help centre recommends.
